5 drunk men attack, badly injure Chennai police constable

Chennai: Chennai police constable was brutally attacked on Monday night by a group of five drunk men. It was the third such assault in a week on a police official in Tamil Nadu’s capital. Rajavelu, 35, suffered 16 cuts on his head, ears and face. At around 10:15 pm, he went to Royapettah, a locality in east-central Chennai, to investigate a case of eve-teasing case reported to the control room. He asked the five men to leave the spot. When he kept questioning them, they attacked.

Only days ago, another policemen, Mari Kannan, was attacked by two men on a bike when he stopped them late at night to check if they were driving drunk. His arm was broken. The police are yet to formulate a plan to stop such attacks.
