Activist Trupti Desai stuck at Cochin airport, faces protests

COCHIN: As activist Trupti Desai landed at 430AM on Friday at the Kochi airport in order to visit Sabarimala temple but could not come out of the domestic terminal following protest by devotees opposing the entry of menstrual women into the Lord Ayyappa temple.

Trupti Desai, a social activist announced that she will lead a group of women to the hilltop shrine on November 17 and had approached the police for protection. The Pune-based activist had earlier also written to Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan as well as state police chief about her plans to visit the shrine, and of seeking police protection for the tenure of her visit to the state.

The police reached there in large numbers to control the situation. We will not leave Kerala without going to Sabarimala,” said the Pune-based activist.
