The Nitish led JDU ( Janta Dal United ) clear a recent bill regarding liquor supply in the state and was strictly prohbited in the eastern state of the country. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said that liquor is banned for the betterment of the poor. Liquor ban was introduced for the poor people. They were wasting a major part of their income on buying alcohol. Domestic violence was high. I did this for the betterment of poor the state supremo added.
According to the amended law, a first time offender under the Bihar’s anti-liquor law will be able to walk free after paying a fine instead of undergoing a five-year jail term. Such an offender will have to pay a fine of Rs 50,000, state Advocate General Lalit Kishore said.
The punishment for trade along with manufacturing of liquor has been reduced to five year while it will be doubled if on found repeated.
The amended provision with a heavy fine on a group of people or resident of a particular area locality or village if the found to be repeat offenders.
