Farmers march in Delhi: Rahul Gandhi, Arvind Kejriwal to Join the farmers march

NEW DELHI: Congress president Rahul Gandhi and Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal are expected to attend the farmers’ march this evening. Thousands of farmers from across the country,marched to Delhi for their demands for debt relief, higher crop prices and farm loan waiver among others.

Earlier, Deputy commissioner of police Madhur Verma said that multiple rounds of talks with protesting leaders were held, following which they were given permission to move to Jantar Mantar with “conditions”.

Over 3,500 police personnel have deployed to ensure security at the event. As many as 850 police personnel, up to the rank of sub-inspectors, have been deployed in the Central district.

Farmers from at least 24 states, including Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh converged at the Ramlila Ground on Thursday.  Senior JDU leader KC Tyagi, CPI national secretary D Raja and some Samajwadi party leaders are also likely to join the agitation.
