Mumbai: The Mumbai police have spelled a fresh trouble for former media tycoon Indrani Mukerjea and ordered a detailed probe into her illness in Byculla Jail. The co-founder of INX media was admitted to Mumbai’s JJ hospital on Friday late night after complaining of respiratory problems and uneasiness. She is an accused in her daughter Sheena Bora’s murder case and presently lodged in women’s cell of Byculla Jail.
Confirming the report ADG, Prisons, Bhushan Upadhyay said to a news agency that Rajvardhan, Inspector General (IG), Prisons, will conduct a detailed inquiry into the matter. However, Rajvardhan has not received the formal orders yet.
A preliminary inquiry is already on against Mukerjea and department is still waiting for the medical reports to ascertain the exact cause of her illness. Only then they can proceed with a detailed inquiry.
Mukerjea was arrested in 2015 on charges of her 24-year old daughter’s murder which took place in 2012, while police nabbed her husband Peter Mukerjea three months later. Both are claiming they are innocent.
Indrani was against her daughter’s marriage with Rahul Mukerjea, with whom she was engaged, because Rahul is Peter’s son from his first marriage.
Bora was abducted and strangled to death and her body was disposed of in a forest and the murder came into light after Indrani’s driver told the investigating agency about it.
