Income Tax Department Raids Telangana Congress Chief, Revanth Reddy’s House

TELANGANA: Income Tax officials on Thursday conducted raids at the properties belonging to Congress leader and Telangana Congress working president Revanth Reddy. The Congress condemned the raids and termed it as “political vendetta” by the ruling TRS in the state and the BJP at the centre.

The I-T officials reached the Jubilee Hills residence of Mr. Reddy early in the morning. Taking to Facebook, Revanth Reddy put up a post that read, “Not against people’s leader, but ED and IT raids should be conducted against Jay Shah, son of Amit Shah, who has increased his profits over 16 times and KTR, who has amassed thousands of crores.”

At a press conference a week ago, Mr. Reddy alleged that both the State and the Central governments were planning to harass him, and that he expected raids and also digging up of old cases.

Revanth Reddy, who joined Congress after quitting the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) in 2017 was caught by by Anti-Corruption Bureau on May 31, 2015, while allegedly paying a bribe of Rs. 50 lakh to Elvis Stephenson, a nominated MLA, for supporting TDP nominee Vem Narendar Reddy in Legislative Council elections.  He was later granted bail and later joined the Congress in 2017.
