NEW DELHI: The story of Sanjay Dutt’s involvement in the arms case first came to light when journalist Baljeet Parmar got a whiff of his involvement with the underworld. He had heard through the grapevine that the son of an MP was involved and upon further investigation, he concluded that it was indeed Sanjay Dutt.
Parmar broke this news and five days later Dutt was arrested as soon as he returned from Mauritius. The recent biopic on the actor by Rajkumar Hirani has been accused of being a PR exercise for cleaning up the image of Sanjay Dutt. Many think pieces have emerged saying that Hirani has portrayed him as the man who was a victim of circumstances and the film refuses to take the blame for any wrong committed by Sanjay.
Parmar, who has not seen the film yet, expressed on Facebook that “Hirani and his ilk are out there to make a quick buck”. Parmar also said, “The so-called bio pics are tailored to suite the man or the woman they are based on. They are not to inspire the audiences but are there to create a smokescreen to blur their minds.”
