New Delhi: Killer of ‘Rising Kashmir’ editor planned blasts in Delhi

New Delhi: The Prime accused in the Shujaat Bukhari murder case in 2002 , Sajjad Gul was planning to carry out serial bomb blasts in Delhi. Sajjad, a hardened Lashkar militant, and his associates, Mehrajuddin Peer alias Hilal and Firoz Ahmed Sheikh alias Abu Mansoor were arrested from Delhi’s Nizamuddin railway station as police had thwarted their plans. After two weeks of extensive surveillance and analysis of the passenger list of trains coming to Delhi, the cops zeroed-in on Punjab Mail arriving from Mumbai on May 9, 2002.

During questioning, Sajjad revealed that he came to Delhi sometime in mid-April 2002, and had rented a flat on the first floor of a house on Masjid Road, Jangpura in south Delhi. He remained in Delhi for a few days and did recce of the possible targets. He then went to Mumbai where he met other Lashkar operatives belonging to Sopore and Srinagar. They arranged for explosives and then returned to Delhi, but were arrested.
