NEW DELHI: U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Nikki Haley met with President Trump to announce her resignation and added she won’t be running for president in 2020 but she will be campaigning for him.
President Donald Trump appeared in the Oval Office alongside Mrs Haley to say she had done “an incredible job”. In her out-of-the-blue announcement, Haley, 46, pointedly tried to shut down talk that she would run for any office in 2020, including challenging Trump in his re-election bid.
The breaking news also comes as Trump and Republicans appeared to be on the front foot when it comes to the aftermath of Brett Kavanaugh’s Supreme Court confirmation. She won re-election in 2014 but cut her second term short to join Trump’s diplomatic team. Although she’s one of Trump’s longest-serving aides and former governor of South Carolina, who’s widely spoken of as a future female US president.
