NEW DELHI: Former President Pranab Mukherjee will address RSS cadre in Nagpur at around 6.30 pm on Thursday, 7 June, after he agreed to attend the organisation’s ‘Tritiya Varsh Varg’ programme.
However, Pranab Mukherjee’s decision to attend the event hasn’t gone down well with most of the senior Congress leaders, including his daughter, Sharmistha. Disapproving of her father’s decision to address an RSS event, she has said that this will give the BJP and the Sangh an opening to plant false stories as his “speech will be forgotten” but “visuals will remain.”
- Pranab Mukherjee’s daughter said the former president attending the RSS event will give the BJP an opening to plant false stories
- Congress leader P Chidambaram urged Mukherjee to take the opportunity to tell the RSS what is wrong with their ideology
- Jairam Ramesh wrote to the former president requesting him not to attend the RSS event.
The reaction to former President Pranab Mukherjee’s acceptance of an invitation to address at an RSS function was quite mixed. “Why did the former Congress stalwart agree to address RSS volunteers? There is a risk of him endorsing the divisive RSS ideology,”
