BHOPAL: The Madhya Pradesh High Court has ordered the state government for the removal of tiles bearing pictures of the prime minister and chief minister inside houses built under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.
The Gwalior bench of the Madhya Pradesh High Court, Justices Sanjay Yadav and Vivek Agrawal directed the government to file a compliance report in this regard by December 20, in response to a petition filed by journalist Sanjay Purohit.
Images of PM Modi and the chief minister were to be installed at the entrance and in the kitchen of thousands of homes built under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. The petitioner’s counsel claimed that the state government with these pictorial tiles has not only misused public money but has also tried taking advantage ahead of the polls.
The state government, in its reply, informed that an order had been issued for the removal of the photos. The central government told the court that the houses can carry only the logo of the central scheme.
