Supreme Court hit Nitish Government, over shelter home abuse

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Tuesday slams Nitish Kumar governmnet over his funding to NGO’s ( Non government organization) running Muzaffarpur shelter home where minor girls were sedated, tortured, raped and abused.

Expressing concerns over the rising incidents of rape in the country The Supreme Court the top court said, “Women are being raped left, right and centre.” The court also referred to the National Crime Records Bureau Data stating every six hour a woman is raped in the country.

The Supreme Court, while taking suo moto cognizance of the Muzaffarpur shelter home sexual abuse case last week, had issued notices to the state government and Union Ministry of Women and Child Development.

A bench comprising Justices M B Lokur, Deepak Gupta and K M Joseph pulled up the Bihar government. The bench referred to National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) data and said that every six hours, a woman is raped in India. The court referred the NCRB data and said 38,947 women were raped in India in 2016.

The TISS audit report stated that many girls at the shelter home had complained of sexual abuse. A special investigation team was formed to probe the complaints.
