NEW DELHI: In a huge snub to Pakistan, Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj sought to isolate Pakistan on terrorism, External affairs minister avoided even eye contact with her Pakistani counterpart Shah Mahmood at the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (Saarc) meeting of ministers, walking out after issuing a call to end the eco-system of terrorism.
Pakistan foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi saw Swaraj’s exit as a snub. Speaking in Urdu, he said “She was probably not feeling well.”The Saarc event was billed as an “Informal Council of Ministers Meeting”.
However, India called off the meeting last week, citing the brutal killings of three policemen in Jammu and Kashmir. Pakistan was to host the Saarc Summit in 2016, but India had pulled out following a string of terror attacks blamed on Pakistan-based terrorists. Bhutan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan had also joined India in boycotting the summit.
