BULANDSHAHR: An inspector-rank officer, Subodh Kumar Singh, who met a violent end during clashes sparked over a cow carcass was killed in mob violence on Monday in Syana village of Bulandshahr. Singh, incidentally, was the investigating officer in the Mohammad Akhlaq lynching case.

What started as a small skirmish over an alleged incident of cow slaughter soon escalated into a riot-like situation on the morning of December 3. “He was the IO of the Akhlaq lynching case from September 28 2015 to November 9, 2015. The chargesheet in the case was filed by a different IO in March 2015,” said UP ADG (law and order).

A 21-year-old Bharatiya Janata Party activist, Sumit, was also killed during the violence.
